Results for the 1st Annual Grenn Valley Lake Aquathon.
Sunday, 16 August 2015 18:27

August 15th 2015 was a memorable date for the folks at Green Valley Lake. As this was the first year an event had been held at the lake which involved a 600 yd swim and 5km run all at 7,200 feet altitude..

An equal number of males and females so well balanced the race went smoothly.

Top 3 men over all were:

  • Steve Vasquez – 33mins 32 seconds
  • Carlos O Brien – 33 mins 41 seconds
  • Darin Miller – 33 mins and 43 seconds.

Top 3 females over all were:

  • Megan Lambert – 38 mins and 27 seconds
  • Kate Santaia – 39 mins and 34 seconds
  • Colleen Poling –  41 mins and 33 seconds.

Interesting statistic all 3 over all women did not wear a wetsuit ... all 3 over all men wore a wet suit.

The full list of results can be found on the results page.

The first person out of the Lake swim was 13 year old Kate Santaia who had never ran 5km before!

Update on Aquathon.
Monday, 10 August 2015 10:03

So this last weekend Al and I had the chance to meet up with Steve and survey the Aquathon course. The Lake was not too cold but we will still allow wet suits if you are wanting to wear a wetsuit. Someone also asked if they could use a swimmers snorkel we said yes.... however if you use a snorkel and you win your division we will give the win to the person in the division which did not use a snorkel...

Above one of the athletes previewing the swim and all smiles..... Below is Suzy one of the race Directors checking how Green the Green Valley Lake really is!!

The 600 yard swim will be counter clockwise and we will have life guards on boards with the swimmers. The Lake is flat! and yes it is warm enough not to wear a wetsuit if you do not want to wear one.

For the 5km run remember it is at 7000 feet elevation. we will have on the course 3 aid stations, with Water and Hammer Heed (An electrolyte energy drin by Hammer Nutrition) The 5km run is a little hilly for the first 3km and the final 2km it is downhill to the finish line in front of Green Valley Lake community building.

We will have a finish chute and a timer to record your over all time. All the racers will have a race number which MUST be worn on the front of their body so we can see the number across the line.
